A complete and authentic issue of the New York Semi-Weekly Tribune, September 4, 1860, 8pp., disbound, minor spine damage, else VG. From an interior page, “A Hebrew Wedding,” recounts the marriage of David Mayer of Albany Georgia to Mary Bernhard, the sixteen year old daughter of Isidor Bernhard. In small part, “A wedding in Hebrew high life took place at the Green Street Synagogue on Wednesday. ... At 2-1/4 o’clock precisely, the Rev. Mr. Cramer ascended the almemor and read aloud the daily prayer in Hebrew. ...” the article lists several prominent New York Jewish people such as “Julius Lessing, J. Kapp, W.C. Coffee, Isaac Friedenberg ... A few months later when the War broke out, Mayer threw in his lot with the Confederacy, and served as commissioned officer of the Albany Guards, Fourth Regiment of Georgia. he resigned due to ill health and moved to New York. In 1871, Mayer established his second brewery business in the upper part of the New York, David Mayer Brewing Co, in the borough of the Bronx.
