Great group of “The Battles of America by Sea and Land” 1861, periodical, published by Virtue, Emmins & Co, New York, a complete naval and military history of the country, includes volumes 1-15, 17-31,33-47, 49-50. All with outstanding engravings and wonderful history of the US conflicts by Dr. Robert Tomes. This is the original subscription, lacking only 3 of the 50 issues. The illustrations are quite elaborate, and there are separate sections for Colonial and Revolutionary War Battles, the War of 1812, through the Mexican Campaigns. The various illustrations (and the steel plate etchings) are in b&w, as issued, with occasional offsetting, and a few of the original tissue guards, over 50 full page images All 47 issues very good condition.
