GRANT, Ulysses S. (1822-1885). Union general who forced Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia to captiulate to end the Civi lWar and 18th President of the United States (1869-1877). Grant once claimed that he only knew two tunes. One was "Yankee Doodle", and the other wasn't. Partially printed Document Signed as president, “U.S. Grant” and countersigned by “Hamilton Fisk,” being an appointment for Horace Fisher to Consul of Chile, December 18, 1876. The document is headed “Ulysses S. Grant, 22” x 16,” with intact seal, fold creases, VG.
