BANKS, Nathaniel (1816-1894) Union Major General. Commanded the Red River Campaign. Served six terms in Congress. Autograph Letter Signed, “N.P. Banks” 1p. quarto, May 8, 1876, Washington, D.C. on House of Representatives letterhead, addressed to Sergt. J.M. Dalzell, of Ohio, marked “Private” it reads in part: “... Capt. Danford has a resolution, which he proposes to offer at the first opportunity, that will authorize the Secretary of War to comply with your request for the centennial reunion. I should be glad to accept your invitation to visit Caldwell, but I fear it will not be in my power. However, later I will communicate with you again. I remember my association with the Ohio soldiers with great satisfaction. My recollections of them ‘are registered where everyday I turn the leaf to read them’...” Good. With engraving.
