A Bachelor of Science diploma on vellum, 1p. large folio, issued by West Point to Harry L.Bailey of Ohio, who graduated in June of 1876, finishing 32nd in his class. Signed by a contingent of his professors many of whom had served as Generals in the Civil War including: THOMAS HOWARD RUGER (1833-1907) Union general wounded in the head at Antietam, signed as Superintendent of the Academy, ROBERT W. WEIR (1803-1889) the great Hudson River artist who served as drawing instructor at the Academy for 40 years, GEORGE LEONARD ANDREWS (1828-1899) Union general who during the war had trained black troops in the Mississippi Valley, THOMAS HEWSON NEILL (1826-1885) Union general who fought at Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and numerous others, thrice wounded during the war, signed asCommandant of Cadets, and ALFRED MORDECAI Jr. son of a major Jewish Academy graduate who fought for the Confederate States , signed as Professor of Ord.Gunnery. VG. Bailey went on to distinguish himself in the Indian frontier wars.
