SICKLES, Daniel (1825-1914). Union general, won the Medal of Honor for Gettysburg where he lost a leg. Prior to the war he was the first American ever acquitted of murder on grounds of temporary insanity after he shot Francis Scott Key's son for seducing his wife. Check signed “D. Sickles”, and filled out in his hand, payable to cash for $84.87, on his Bank of the Metropolis account, October 14, 1886, New York. Cancelled. VG.
