BUTLER, Benjamin Franklin. (1818-1893) Anti-monopoly and Greenback (National) Party candidate for President in 1884, as a Civil War Union general, his "Butler's Folly" led to a dismissal by Grant. He served in Congress representing Massachusetts. Autograph Letter Signed, “Benj. Butler” 1p. octavo, Boston, December 1, 1896, addressed to H.C. Hines, and reads: “...I have no autograph of President Lincoln that is not attached to very valuable papers which I cannot spare...” VG.
