Mounted Albumen Photograph, withdrawn from the Harvard year book, of Patrick Tracy Jackson who enlisted on 5/26/1862 as a private later commissioned as a 1st Lieut 3/2/1864 MA 5th Cavalry. The 5th Regiment. Massachusetts Voluntary Cavalry was the only cavalry regiment from Massachusetts composed exclusively of colored men. It was organized at Camp Meigs, Readville, during the autumn of 1863 and the winter following.
