c. 1880s to Turn of the Century, Black Americana themed printing plate. There are three separate illustrations contained within the chase. the illustrations include; "Smuggling Slaves to freedom via the Underground Railroad." (This is the Henry Box Brown famous image). The 3” x 2-3/4” plate shows The Box with Brown emerging as he is received by William Still, James Miller McKim, Professor C.D. Cleveland, and Lewis Thompson. Address on box: 'W. JOHNSON. Arch st. Philadelphia. This side up with Care.' This is similiar to the1850 lithograph “HE RESURRECTION OF HENRY BOX BROWN AT PHILADELPHIA”. ... plus, a 2-34” x 2-1/4” plate "A poster for Uncle Tom's Cabin," (the dogs hunting down Tom). Banner above image reads; "THE FAMOUS JARRETT & PALMER LONDON COMPY SLAVINS ORIGINAL AMERICAN TROUPE / CONSOLIDATED WITH", and text below image; "UNCLE TOM'S CABIN." ... plus, a 2-3/4” 5-1/2” plate "Stephen A. Douglas, the 'lil giant," (in debate stance), likely used for the Lincoln Douglas debates.
