Cabinet Card photograph show 9226 Bales of Cotton on the Henry Frank, April 2, 1881, setting a record for shipment of cotton bales. The photographer is identified on the mount, Lilienthal of New Orleans. The “Henry Frank,” Capt. Frank Hicks, was built at Cincinnati in 1878 especially for the cotton carrying trade between Memphis and New Orleans at a cost of $75,000. She carried 2,500 tons. Length 276 feet, beam 52 feet, hold 9 feet The 6 boilers, 42 inches in diameter and 28 feet long, supplied steam to cylinders 28% inches in diameter, with 9 feet stroke The sternwheel was 28 feet in diameter and worked a 32-foot bucket. The machinery came out of the big Pittsburgh towboat Ajax. The Frank arrived at New Orleans April 2 1881, with 9,226 bales of "flat" cotton and 250 tons of other cargo She burned at Davis Creek Island, 22 miles above New Orleans, on Thursday, October 2. 1884, and was a total loss.
