A good war-date Confederate postal cover addressed: "Sgt. Major V.[irgil] C. Dibble, Orangeburg, So. Ca." The cover bears a manuscript endored cancellation from "Green Pond, S. C. Nov. 30, 1863" along with a pen cancelled 10-cent Jefferson Davis stamp. Virgil C. Dibble was a newly promoted sergeant major of the 5th South Carolina Cavalry and after the war became commandant of the UCV Camp Sumter, No. 250 Post, Charleston.
