An Inspector General’s Report for Colonel Charles G. Armistead's Brigade, partially printed, 10” x 12-1/2,” 12pp., December 10, 1864, split at spine, else VG. The various reports provide a military look into the Brigade including; numbers of soldiers present / absent; accounting of absent officers (wounded, captured, prisoner, ect). In summary the inspector notes, “Montgomery Al. Dec. 15th/64, Just read and respectfully find - The authority for raising Ball’s 8th Ala was submitted with my late report on this brigade- I think that two fair regiments can be made of this brigade under Cols. Armistead and Ball.”The regiment was organized of Alabama and Mississippi unassigned cavalry companies after Sherman's raid to Meridian, February 1864. It was assigned to Colonel Charles G. Armistead's Brigade which consisted of Colonel Charles P. Ball's Eighth Alabama Cavalry and Lewis' Battalion, Alabama Cavalry.
