Broadside, 17” x 21-1/2” on Confederate necessity paper, finely ruled, two very minor folding holes. At the very top of the document in manuscript, “Taken April 4th, 1865 at Richmond Va by Geo. D. Murray.” The document’s printed titled, “Roll of Prisoners of War Paroled at Richmond” followed with this declaration, “We, the undersigned Prisoners of War, do give our parole of honor that we will not take up arms again, nor serve ... nor discharge any duty usually performed by soldiers ... nor any act that may be injurous to the Confederate States.” The document then continues with columns, Names, Regiment, Where Captured, When Captured, and Signature. Beneath these columns, the information is filled out in manuscript for 48 soldiers. Ackowledging the parole, each prisoner placed his mark “X”. These Union soldiers were all captured between January and March 1865, representing 19 different regiments, with the largest number of prisoners coming from Ohio, 13.
