Prominently in view of this very sharp, detailed ambrotype image of a handsome young Union cavalry corporal is the oval brass plate on his waist belt bearing the large relief letters "PR" (possibly "Pennsylvania Reserves"?...or some outfit from Pittsburgh of Philadelphia??). Also wearing wide cavalry gauntlet gloves, kepi and a leather holster on his waist belt from which the handle of a large caliber pistol partially protrudes, its ivory grips in evidence. Painted studio type background. Superb condition. Wonderful clear image with its original gilt frame. Detail on the "PR" buckle in very sharp focus.
