War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written, on patriotic stationery, by Pvt. William Hazen Noyes, Co. E, 12th Mass. Vols. "Camp Hicks, Frederick, [Maryland], Jan. 5, 1862", in part: "…most of the men in camp that know anything of National affairs regard the delivering up of Mason & Slidell with satisfaction. There is sone that do not know any thing…think that they ought to have kept them at all Hazards. I am satisfied…they have begun a stable for the horse…it is reported by some that we were to take the cars for some point as Mc Call was near Leesburg, Rosencrans near Winchester & Banks on this side…a few days ago Gen. Banks reviewed us on dress parade, the first time that any great military officer has done so. Gen. Rosencrans was in Frederick a few days ago…W. Hazen Noyes, Co. E, 12th Regt. Mass. Vol.". VG
