Cased 1/6th plate ambrotype, ca. 1861-1865. The soldier shown here is wearing a dress uniform coat complete with regulation brass shoulder scales. His buttons, not gilt, clearly show the eagle and shield device, however the letter indicating branch of service is too faint to determine. The case, originally split, has been repaired with modern tape. Fine condition.
