A rare war-date Pennsylvania's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt.Dennis Baily, [DOD Florence, SC, 8/18/64 as POW Wilderness, 5/5/64], Co. H, 150th Penn. Vols., "Camp near Bell Plain, [Va.], Feb. 26, 1863", in part: "…we left Washington Sunday the 15 for Bell Plain landing. We came here by water. We landed the 16…we marched out from the river about to miles and camped…we are 8 miles of Fredericksburg. I have been out on picket duty 2 days…we had taken two days rations out with us…we have a log shanty built covered with our oil blankets…we have to drill every day…we are brigaded now [with] the 149, 150 & 143 [Penn.]…we are the 2 Brigade, 3d Division, first army Corps…there will be a move of the army as soon as the roads gets good. They are very bad now. The army is camped all round here…we will be in the first battle, that is they are preparing for it…your affectionate Dennis Bailey…". Also included is a letter from the mother of the above letter's recipient mentioning Dennis Bailey's enlistment, it is 2pp. folio, Cochranton, Pa., Nov. 24, 1862, in part: "…Dennis bailey is in the 150 Regiment Pa. Vols., Company H, Washington, D. C., Care of Capt. Reisinger…Dennis sends his love to you and would like to have alter from you…". Both original stamped transmittal covers are included. VG
