War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Musician Elias Brady [died Chattanooga, 12/11/63], Co. D, 86th Indiana Vols., [outside Nashville, Tenn.], Nov. 28, [62], in part: "…we moved within a mile of Nashville and stayed there 3 days…they have got the railroad fixed leading from Nashville to Louisville. The rebels tore up twice within the last few months…their is a place about thirty miles from here by the name of Murfreesboro that is fool of rebels…they are fortifying and are making great preparations to receive us. Their forces are 60 thousand. Our forces are over hundred thousand…if our army is managed right we will thrash them easily…your husband, Elias Brady…".
