War-date Union soldier's letter, 5pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Halsey Bartlett, Co. A., 6th Conn. Vols., [KIA Bermuda Hundred, Va., 6/17/64], Folly Island, S. C., June 14, 1863, in part: "…we can see and hear the Rebels talk but I don't know as this is anything to be afraid of. I have seen the same thing in other places…fatigue duty is…[were] we have to work on the batteries…shoveling and doing any kind of work…have to work about four hours per day…Maj. General Hunter is removed from his office of major general and Captain [Quincy] Gilmore of the Engineer Corps is to take his place and Rear Admiral Dupont has been removed and Commodore Foot[e] [Foote actually died before he assumed command and Dahlgren succeeded him.] has taken his place…in command of our fleet…".
