Manuscript document, 5" x 5", Headquarters Fort Edisto So. Ca., May 6th, 1862, minor foxing, expected folds, VG. The counter signs are; "May 6th - Cowpens; 7th - New Orleans; 8th - McCllelan; 9th - Fort Jackson; 10th - Kings Mountain; By command of Genl. H.G. Wright, C.W. Foster, Asst.Adjt. Genl."Counter Signs were a secret sign that must be given by authorized persons seeking admission through a guarded area or military line. If the soldier didn't know the counter for the day, he would certainly be denied access and possible arrested.
