War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Ephraim W. Frost [POW Winchester, Va., 6/13/63; WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/05/64; POW 6/11/64 while wounded-confinded at Florence, SC & DOD upon parole 1/15/65], Co. I, 116th Ohio Vols.,"Camp at Sleepy Creek, Morgan Co., West Va., March 20-21, 1864," in part: "…there was a small raid on the sutler's last night and took about 100…dollars worth of nearly that there was. None of our Co. [was] in it…Sergt. Chick was a tending it when the raid was made…I think that our Co. had no hand in it. The sutler has gone home top see his folks…[Feb. 21]…you heard of the of an other call for two hundred thousand more men…I am glad of it…it looks as if they meant to have this fus stop…what do you think of Lieut. General Grant for a commander in chief. Do you think he will make them stand a round any better than Old Halleck. Well if he don't I am [?] taken in the man. The papers…says that he is a going to take command of the Potomac army in person…I hope he will…he will have good success in his undertaking …if our armies are successful this spring…the thing will be wound up…E.
