War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Ephraim W. Frost [POW Winchester, Va., 6/13/63; WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/05/64; POW 6/11/64 while wounded-confinded at Florence, SC & DOD upon parole 1/15/65], Co. I, 116th Ohio Vols.,"Camp at Sleepy Creek, [Morgan Co., West Va.], April 10, 1864," in part: "…I have not seen Wm. Frost [Co. I, 116th Ohio WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/5/64] since he left. I heard that they were after him…but they could not get him…Co. A has left here and gone to Martinsburg…we are left here…the flag of truce boat had gone to City Point after the remainder of the prisoners at Richmond…officers and all so if nothing happens Lieut. [Richmond O.] Knowles [Interestingly, he was allowed to vote in the 1864 presidential election while a POW at Camp Sorghum, S. C.] will be back here again…I would like to see him very well……the last time I saw him was in Richmond in…Libby prison…he has a hard time of it at that place…[April 11]…thare was a skirmish out between Winchester and Martinsburg. Thare was one Lieut. killed and a Maj. and 30 men captured. A part of the rail road bridge at Harpers Ferry so that the trains will have to stop for a few days…has there been any drafting done there yet…how many there has got to come out…E. W. Frost". VG
