War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Ephraim W. Frost [POW Winchester, Va., 6/13/63; WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/05/64; POW 6/11/64 while wounded-confinded at Florence, SC & DOD upon parole 1/15/65], Co. I, 116th Ohio Vols., [n. p., but Harpers Ferry, Va.], April 18, 1864, in part: "…we left Sleepy Creek last Friday…and went to Harpers Ferry where we arrived about 1 o'clock in the nite. The Co. went on the train…I with 6 others was left to guard the wagons. We went to Martinsburg where we found the rest of the wagons that belongs to our Regt…arrived at Harpers Ferry…we stayed there that nite…we camped in the woods. It looked very curious to see the ground all covered with shelter tents. There was three Regts with us and a battery…they maid quite a show. We went to Harpers Ferry to draw shelter tents…I wrote a few lines [to Molly]…she wanted to know where Wm. Frost was…I wrote a little about him…when the regt went to Harpers Ferry he was taken down there with the rest but I did not see him as I did not go with the Co.. The boys say that he was well then. Poor boy I am sorry for him but can do him no good…if he behaves himself he will not be very severely delta with…". VG
