A good war-date printed, 3pp. 8vo., Union Army Military document, outlining the War Department's prescribed methods for treating returning POWs of Andersonville, Florence, Salisbury and any "other rebel prison." Also included is the price schedule for retained military equipment Union soldiers would except to pay if they chose to take their arms and equipment home, issued by the command of Union General Quincy Gillmore, being General Order No. 94, "Headquarters Department of the South, Hilton Head, S. C., June 16, 1865." These orders issued by the War Department, between May 29 and June 10, 1865, read, in part: "…telegram concerning prisoners. The Secretary of War directs that returned Prisoners of War (enlisted men) who have endured the hardships of Andersonville, Florence, Salisbury…be mustered out as soon as possible, and allowed three months extra pay…Volunteer soldiers wishing to enlist in the Regular Army…will be forthwith mustered out…will not be sent to rendezvous…but on enlistment in the Regular Army, will final payments…commanding officers…will…muster for commutation of rations all men of their respective commands who have been prisoners of war…soldiers honorably mustered out, who desire…to retain their arms and accouterments…must signify their intention before leaving the field…the prices fixed by the Ordnance Department are as follows: Muskets…with or without accouterments, six dollars. Spencer Carbines…ten dollars. All carbines and revolvers eight dollars. Sabers and swords, with or without belts, three dollars…by command of Major-General Q. A. Gillmore…".
