There are legends of Champ Ferguson's alleged sadism, including stories that he decapitated prisoners and rolled their heads down hillside. Occasionally, his guerrilla band cooperated with Confederate military units led by Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan and Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler. Two complete and authentic issues of Harper’s Weekly, each 16pp., disbound, near fine. From the September 23, 1865 front cover, a 1/2 page engraving “Champ Ferguson and His Guards,”with a relateed report also on the front page. Also presented on the front page, are two images of men executed by the military, with related report.... plus, From the November 11, 1865 interior, a 1/2 page wood cut engraving, “Execution of Champ Ferguson, The Guerrilla, at Nashville, Tennessee, October 20, 1865,” with related report on the same page. Additionally, a full page engraving showing a dead Colored Union soldier titled, “The True Defenders of the Constitution.”
