Fine carte-de-visite photo portrait of quite a dandified young, handsome American militia officer in post-Civil War years but obviously a CW veteran; wearing silver two piece corps badge medal. His very long fancy sideburns and moustache lend a captivating look. Wide gold bullion crossbelt (baldric) with brass insignia conspicuously shown (large shield-like device eagle, wreath and star motif suspended by chains from a small lion head). On first look the eagle on the gorget appears to be a crowned eagle, but on close inspection the eagle is American type, holding olive branch in talons and the "crown-like" device on head is some other motif (a bit too indistinct to positively identify). Normal sepia toning and aging, but exc. Extremely fancy gold printed signature of "BOGARDUS…PHOTOGRAPHIC GALLERIES…NEW YORK" on reverse.
