Brady CDV of Colonel William H. Morris, VG. Morris, a West Point graduate, took part in the battles of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks and was promoted Colonel of the 6th New York Heavy Artillery in September 1862. Promoted Brigadier General in November 1862, he commanded a brigade at Maryland Heights, Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg and distinguished himself in the Battle of the Wilderness where he was severely wounded. For gallant and meritorious services in the Battle of the Wilderness, he was brevetted Major General of US Volunteers on March 13, 1865.
