Archive of thirteen (13) receipts signed by three Rhode Island Governors; James Young Smith (1809-1876), William Sprague (1830-1915), and Henry Lippitt (1818-1891). All these receipts are for the Paul Whitin & Sons company and all are from Prividence Rhode Island. The Whitin Works became one of the largest textile machinery companies in the world. The archive contains seven (7) recipts of “H.R. Lippit from 1847-57, various sizes. Most of these are for Cotton Bales. ... plus, One (1) document signed by W Sprague for machinery, 1857. ... plus, Five (5) documents signed by J. Y. Smith, various sizes, mostly for cotten bales.
