Excellent content campaign pamphlet, speech given by Governor Jewell of Connection at the Cooper (Union) institute in NYC. September 11, 1872, 24 pp., fine. Jewell supports Grant throughout the pamphlet, and ends with a most interesting sentence at the end, reading "I propose to stand by the regular Republican organization - by that party which has never turned its back on any man because he was poor, or because he was ignorant, or because he was black". A strong statement considering the lack of civil rights for African Americans at this time
