A pair of original mounted albumen photographs, 9"x7", titled "OBESQUIES OF PRESIDENT JAS. A. GARFIELD, CLEVELAND, OHIO, SEPT. 26th, 1881". by Thomas Sweeny of Cleveland. One image shows the funeral while in process, with Garfield's giant tomb at center, the second image shows the funeral participants in a morbid pose before the tomb. Both have arches as commonly seen in stereoviews, which is uncommon. Both are a little light though detailed and VG. James Garfield. 20th US President. A self-taught man, Garfield became a professor of dead languages and fought in the Civil War. Head of the republican party and a representative of Ohio, Garfield was elected president in 1880. He was assassinated in 1881 by Charles Guiteau.
