Fine stereoview from the series "The War for the Union - Photographic History 1861-1865: GENERAL GRANT'S HORSE 'CINCINNATII." Text on verso describes scene: "This is one of General Grant's favorite horses; the photograph was taken at City Point, Virginia, in March 1865." Postwar stereoview from original negative published by "The War Photograph & Exhibition Company...sole owners of the original war views." The War Photograph & Exhibition Company were the successors to Taylor and Huntington of Hartford, who published a series of stereoviews made from the original glass negatives executed by Brady, Gardner, Gibson and others. One of the most collectible stereo images from a grouping found several years ago in absolutely original mint condition.
