She is to be fed, clothed in the usual manner, and 20 dollars must be paid as hire for her. Should she give child within the year, a reasonable deduction on such as may be agreed on will be made.” Then, on the reverse, “Jan 3, 1800, Sir, i will give you 3 pounds for your Negro woman in consequence of her being with child. I could not afford to give more.”
