Almanac, “American Almanac and Repository of Useful Knowledge for the Year 1858, Boston, 356pp., leather bound, VG. The book is owner IDd as belonging to Robert Randolf, MD., New Market (VA). There are dozens of blank pages throughout the almanac whereby Randolf wrote financial, weather, and personal notes. There are at least 5 occasions in which he recorded slave sales. As example, “March 24th, Sold Charley to Valsp for $700, he’s going to Missouri;” April 24th, Sold Polly and her four children to Hugh Swants for $1625.” He also notes unusual occurances such as a drawing of a comet, “Donatis Comet.”
