RHETT, Robert Barnwell (1800-1876) U.S. Representative from South Carolina 1837-39; U.S. Senator from South Carolina 1850-52. Editor of the Charleston Mercury. Brigadier General of the South Carolina militia, 1861. Autograph Letter Signed “R.B. Rhett”, October 19, 1843, 1pp., VG. In full, “My Dear Sir, Do oblige me by meeting me at the R. R. cars in Richmond on tomorrow afternoon (Friday). I will at this time, pass through Richmond on my way to the south. Yours truly & best wishes,” Also included is a CDV of Rhett in Mexican war period uniform. On the back are two revenue stamps dated August 17, 1865.
