War-date Confederate POW officer's, 1p. 4to., letter written by Lt. Col. Paul Lynch Lee (1838-1911, POW Fort Henry, Tenn. 2/06/62 and WIA & POW Port Hudson, La., 7/09/63) 15th Arkansas, Johnson's Island, Ohio, March 18, 1864 to his friend Capt. Alexander Porter Morse, in part: "…suppose Mrs. Beauregard's death cast a gloom over our many friends of the Crescent City. How gratifying to know her remains were attended by such a vast concourse of people! Regret so much I did not see her when Mrs. Broussean carried me round to her house…exchange is progressing slowly at the present rate. the last ones will be here several months to come. Several of the number sent away from this point to Point Lookout have reached Richmond. God speed the day when your correspondent will be there! When I am in Dixie the first opportunity I get I will write to you and my dear little friend Miss Lew. It has been snowing some today…the health of the prison is much improved greatly to the joy of all. How sad to see our brother officers die up here so far from their friends-wish so much when I see these sick sow of their female friends could be present to nurse them. All of your friends are quite well. The invisible adjutant comes down every day to recite his phonography. Tell Miss. Rosa [Morse's sister] she will have to write to Billy and advise him not be so pugnacious, had a personal altercation with one of my lieutenants. When you see my [?] friends and Miss. Lottie Adams, give them a kiss for me. Let me know how they receive it. Would send one to Miss. R. but a certain one here confined is acknowledged a belligerent. Please remember me to the Misses Walton & Shule as well as other friends particularly to your mother & father. Your friend P. Lynch Lee". After the war Lee was elected of sheriff Ouachita County, Arkansas and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Camden, Arkansas. VG
