A rare Trans-Mississippi official Confederate military document, partly-printed, 1p. 4to., being a Circular, "Headquarters Trans-Mississippi Department, Adjutant General's Department, Shreveport, La., March 6, 1865", issued to Brigadier General JAMES PATRICK MAJOR, as commander of the cavalry brigade under Major General John A. Wharton, sending two copies of reports for him to fill out and return to the department. Signed and made official by Col. Samuel Smith Anderson (1819-1901) as assistant adjutant general on the staff of Kirby Smith. A rare Confederate document related to a Trans-Mississippi general whose presence here is a first for us! Also included is a printed newspaper biography, datelined Washington, D. C., June 22, 1877 chronicling General James Patrick Major's life. Both VG
