Confederate letter , 1pp., Charleston, December 20, 1861, written to J.B. Grimball , under the business signature of Robertson Blacklock & CO. In part, “... The fleet at No. Edisto has blocked the inland navigation south, for the present: but we hope the coasters will be able to get home by x-mas, tho there is no telling. Mr. Prepley says he has not yet received my tidings of the Confederate Stock you subscribed for. ... P.S. Genl. Ripley returned last evening from No. Edisto. We got a permit for Jimmy to return. We have sent you by him the 300 bus. flour and 1 sack salt $14 ...” The letter has the original cover with .05 cent green Jefferson Davis tied by a double circle “Charleston, S.C.” cds (Scott No. 1). The stamp has a full four margins.
