Imperial albumen photograph, 7-1/2”x13”, of William Sherman by Napoleon Sarony of New York, signed at card mount “W.T. Sherman, General, 1888” and again on verso “With affectionate regards of W.T. Sherman, General. New York City, August 20, 1888.” Some wear on verso of mount, else Fine. From the Argus Ogborn collection, with pencil notation by Ogborn, that describes a letter from Sherman to Sarony, pertaining to this photograph which Sherman states was “The best photo of him extant and that he would have it framed with those of Grant and Sheridan.”
