Group of FOUR war dated letters, 15pages all writen by “Cha(rle)s F. Huber” who enlisted August 8, 1861 into Comapany A, Pennsylvania 23rd Infantry. Letter, September 21, 1861 on “United States Capitol” patriotic letterhead. Huber advises his sister of the arrival in camp of several of their friends.; Camp Graham, October 28, 1861, VG. in part, “I have heard of the Battle of Balls Bluff ... the Death of the brave Col. baker ... heard Jim McCune being captured ... have received the Minnie Muskets or Rifle muskets ...”; Camp Graham, January 3rd, 1862, on “Col. D.B. Birney’s letterhead with an illustration of the Colonel. In part, “... have got regualar Uniform with leather chokers and brass epailettes .. the Sibley tents are very nice ... if England wants to fight, let her wait till this War is settled and then we will give a tussell. ..”; Camp near City Point, July 4, 1862, VG. In part, “Gen’l McClellan is visiting the troops and the Artillery are firing salutes ... we have been in a fight again at a place about 8 miles back of us .. we lays along the road 2 or 3 hours and then we advanced into the open field ... the Rebels made a rush out of the woods to capture the batteries ... our Brigade moved forward and drove the Rebels back ..only 2 or 3 in the regiment were hurt ... the Rebels made a brake again ... the balls flew pretty thick around us ... they were cut down by dozens, the whole field was literally covered with their dead and wounded ... we were in the fight about two hours ...”
