A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 3 1/4pp. 4to., written by Sgt. Nathan Cory, Co. C, 101st Penn. Vols., (POW Plymouth, N. C., April 20, 64), "Seven Pines near Richmond, [Va.], May 27, 1862", in part: "Dear brother in law…the damned rebus has not killed me yet…you want to no how a soldier feels in a fight…we just had to stand and take it as it come for we could not get to shoot…they give us enough of shells and shot and some minnie balls. The place we now occupy our artillery shells the rebus out of yesterday. We were fetched up on double quick…to support the battery in case the rebels would make a charge on the battery but the moment they seen the hundred and first coming with the brite guns they started on double quick. Well Peter…Company C just laughed at the shells bursting and the shot whirring round us. When the ball hit John's canteen he looked around and said god damned if it didn't spoil my canteen…we are within six miles of Richmond and…we will have some fun soon…I have only one old story to right…my cock is only 3 inches long. It has been so long since I got any skin I have forgot all about it. There is nothing here to fuck only some wenches and it is damned hard to get a shot at them…yours truly to death Nathan Cory to Baley…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. VG
