A good war-date Union soldier's battle letter, 4pp. 4to., written by Sgt. Nathan Cory, Co. C, 101st Penn. Vols., (POW Plymouth, N. C., April 20, 64), "Camp near West Point, [Va.], May, 1862", in part: "…told you a little about our fight. We are expecting another fight on this side of Richmond. It will be ranter a big fight or a hell of a run if they stand [and] fight we will give them hell like we always do…if we get them red out of Virginia it will about sew up secesh…if they would take us in…we can soon make them [??] sharpshooters and run like they did at the other fight when the 85th [New York] came up and give them a couple of volleys. The rebel's prisoners says they don't like the brite barrels [of our] guns. They think they are all sharpshooters…the rebels left some good cannon stuck in the mud. We run them so close [that] when the wagons would [get] stuck in the mud they had not time to take them out…they would spike the cannon and leave them…well I have not very much to tell you…but I can tell you skin is damn hard to get here…the right address as near as I can give it is Fortress Monro, V. a., Company C, 101st P. V., Second Brigade, Casey's Division…your old friend, Nathan Cory…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. VG
