1861, Piece of a Flagstaff from the First Bombardment of Fort Sumter, Fine. 3" long, attached to a "tea invitation" card from Mrs. John Treat Irving by thin wire. The surrounding, handwritten notation reads, "Piece of flagstaff shattered at Fort Sumter during the first bombardment, April 1861." A unique piece from the very beginning of the Civil War.
