Period stereoview on orange mount showing Colonel Ord standing on a veranda. The identification is on the reverse “Col. Ord, at the mansion formerly occupied by Jeff. Davis, Richmond, Va. In the doorway is the table upon which the surrender of Gen. Lee was signed. No 3387 ... Published by Anthony & Co.” The surrender table shown was bought by General Ord for $50. Known as Lee’s Table, it is in the Chicago Historical Society Museum. It was taken from the McLean parlor by General Edward O.C. Ord who claimed he paid $50 for it. It was stored at Fort Monroe until 1887, after Ord’s death. It was then sold to C.F. Gunther, Chicago businessman whose relics were later passed to the Chicago Historical Society.
