Glass negative of John Wilkes Booth. Measures 3 1/4" X 4 1/4", excellent. Booth is in a seated pose holding his cane. Case and Getchell, Boston, took this image of Booth c. 1862-63. This glass negative has a date at the right portion of the glass of 1894, making this a copy negative (Try to find the original from 1862!). The date is not in the Booth image, but to the right of the black tape outlining Booth. This is the first Booth negative we have seen offers at auction, and is quite rare. Along with the Booth negative comes a 5" X 7" glass negative of Stephen Douglas's birthplace in Brandon, Vermont. The negative is fine save for missing the top right corner, not affecting image. Also included is a 3" X 4" glass negative of Civil War General Daniel Sickles, which is in fine condition. The Booth negative is difficult to estimate due to lack of auction history, so we are putting, what we feel, a conservative starting bid on the group.
