Excellent war-date situation report from the "Commanding Officer, U.S.S. LST 660" issued to the "Commander, LST Group #42," and the "Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Fleet" from October 1944 through May 1945, detailing the various actions of the ship, including several instances of battle, 57 pp. quarto, and reads in small part: "…Unidentified plane coming from southwest while we were on a westerly course, flying very low and crossing our bow from port to starboard. An LST in the approximate position of 5-2 of convoy opened fire. Plane crashed in water and burned…Two Vals approaching from the northwest dived on Liberty Ships anchored in bay. The first plane dropped a bomb on one Liberty Ship hitting amidships. The plane was shot down and crashed in the water. Second Val was hit and crashed dived into another Liberty Ship. Both ships were left with fires burning, which apparently later were secured…A plane identified as a Hamp came out of the sun, crossing amidships, very high over head. We opened fire but plane was out of range. Plane was later brought down by P38's….Flash Red was received and within two or three minutes, two Judys appeared from the south flying very high. Almost all ships in the harbor opened fire and sent up an effective barrage. One plane turned without attacking and headed west, we lost sight of the latter, due to the heavy smoke screen.
