McCORMICK, William Sanderson (1815-1865), an American businessman who developed the company that became the major producer of agricultural equipment in the 19th century. The business became the International Harvester corporation after his death. Autograph Letter Signed, “Wm. S. McCormick”, Chicago, September 26, 1853, 3pp., VG. In part, “Your communication has been drawn in my hands ... It is strange that a man who has invented ‘ten points of novelty’ in a a raising machine shouts he so stupid. ... You remind me of a viper snake - you know how they blow & yet you know there are snakes more dangerous than they. .. to inform you wherein you were infringing - that you might try to evade more fully ... Tafteward denied the authenticity of the letter. ..."
