Both letters are sent to Jefferson Salsig, Three Rivers, Michigan from Plattsmouth, Nebraska Territory, 1857. The first, 2pp., May 17th, in small part, “I hope you haven’t for you can’t think how I feel here in this wild country for the Indians are killing folks not far from here and I wish you could see the history of the Indian massacre here. It would make your blood run cold. ... But Oh! What a place this is. It won’t hold me longer than fall. ... July 8, 1857, 3pp., VG. In small part, “The gloriious fourth, a celebration that excels the one we had in Indiana ... You ought to have seen the fellers and their honeys come ionto town.” Both letters are filled day-today life in early Nebraska.
