“National Political Map of the United States” 29” x 37,” A. Ranney, New York, 1856, mounted to black canvess, rough around the perimeter, some chippimng, delicate, yet very graphic. Two thirds of the braodsheet shows the United States. While above that map are engravings of the key Presidential contenders, for the Democrat Party, Buchanan , Breckinridge; for the American Party, Fillmore, Donelson; and for the Republican Party, Fremont, and Dayton; each with birthdates. Below the map are descriptions of the party platforms to include, The Democratic Platform, The American Platform and the Republican Platfor. Additionally, there is a “Col. Fremont’s Letter of Acceptance.” This was the first Republican national election.
