Titled on the mount, “Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, U.S.A. Photographed by T.R. Burnham, 351Washington St., Boston, in Washington, D.C., June 5th, 1868.” Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1868, by T.R. Burnham, in the Clerk’s Office of the District Court of Massachusetts. The photograph is 18” x 23” (sight as it is framed), shows Grant is shown seated, in military uniform, with a gold watch chain on his vest and four-star shoulder boards. This splendid portrait shows Grant fifteen days after receiving the Republican presidential nomination. Boston photographer T. R. Burnham traveled to Washington in June 1868 to make this imposing photograph.
