Hand Colored lithograph, 11-12” x 15-1/2”, titled “Indiens Peaux- Rouges” (translates to Indian redskins), backed with another contemporary hand-colored sheet, then tacked down to a later sheet of heavy paper. A few small tears at edges, repaired with tape, minor loss. Light soiling and toning. Issued shortly after Wounded Knee, this French print depicts the Ghost Dance (Danse des Esprits), as well as the Sioux war dance (danse de guerre des Sioux), scalping (Le Scalpe), and representatives of the Crow, Cheyenne, Ute, Pawnee, Mandan, Comanche, and Apache tribes. The American West was very popular in Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and this print is indicative of ongoing French fascination with Native American culture.
